May 31 - Salerno

The above is Positano on the Amalfi coast south of Naples. The day started by walking a "few" miles to meet up with the tour. A small group of 6 people. The weather is beautiful so everyone in southern Italy is heading to the beaches.  Position, also known as the vertical city, was wall to wall people. One road and houses built on top of each other. "Just walk down hill you can't get lost", said the driver. Turns out there is a folk in that road, one goes to the water and the other to the parking lot meeting area. You guessed it the water was beautiful...
We drove thru Sorrento and then on to Pompeii where we had a guided tour. The history of this area is incredible and the conditions of the area that was covered  with 85ft of volcanic ash.
The rooms are still bright color. The eruption happened 79 AD. The bodies were covered with pyroclastic ash leaving voids in the ash. The figure was made by refilling the voids to see what the figure was doing at the time. The young lady just layed down and tried to breath.
I did take photos of Mt Vesuvius but not with my phone so those will have to wait for processing and transfer.
Great day. Tomorrow we head back to Rome.
