After a quiet night in Canada, we decided to drop back into Michigan and rockhound alone the south shore of Lake Superior. On our way Google maps found a "shorter route"... we found ourselves on an increasingly narrower road and after about 20 miles it ended at a private property gate. The snowmobile group owner close the " road" at the end of snow season.
We backtracked and stopped the town of Grand Marais. Spent a few hours collecting rocks on the beach, had lunch at the Grand Marais Tavern.
We eventually got to Pictured Rock National Lakeshore. While leaving the visitor Center at Au Sable light house we saw a small sign for The Agatelady Rock shop. Of course we stopped. The "semi retired" owner, Karen Brzys, is only open 2-5 PM as she is working on her 4th book on agates. We bought a few agates, her last book and headed down the road. A long but enjoyable day but no Petosky stones.
