July 3, 2025

After a quiet night in Canada, we decided to drop back into Michigan and rockhound alone the south shore of Lake Superior.  On our way Google maps found a "shorter route"... we found ourselves on an increasingly narrower road and after about 20 miles it ended at a private  property  gate. The snowmobile group owner close the " road" at the end of snow season.
We backtracked and stopped the town of Grand Marais. Spent a few hours collecting rocks on the beach, had lunch at the Grand Marais Tavern.
We eventually got to Pictured Rock National Lakeshore. While leaving the visitor Center at Au Sable light house we saw a small sign for The Agatelady Rock shop. Of course we stopped. The "semi retired" owner, Karen Brzys, is only open 2-5 PM as she is working on her 4th book on agates. We bought a few agates, her last book and headed down the road. A long but enjoyable day but no Petosky stones.

June 30, 2025

Today was a travel day. We left Cincinnati area and head north to Dearborn,  MI. We stopped at Airstream Parts in Helena, OH to purchase a new rockguard window cover that got broken on our trip to Alaska a few years back. We're in Dearborn for a couple nites at the KOA Holiday. Today 7/1, we spent at the Henry Ford museum and Greenfield Village. Collections of cars, planes, furniture,  appliances, bicycles, trains,... from. Mid-1800's to current. Presidential limos ( including the one Kennedy was assassinated in, the one that Reagan was in when Kinkley shot him...
The Lamy's Diner came from Rt 20 in Marlborough, MA. It opened in 1946 and was moved the museum in 2012.
Also the McDonald's neon.
Greenfield Village is a Mid-1800's town with a saw mill, potter, printer, glass blower, weavers.. all using tools and equipment from Mid-1800's.

Triple event day!!! Today is Bob's birthday Jim's half birthday and Rebecca & Paul's wedding. Bob and I were born 18 months apart to the day ( Bob 6/27; Jim 12/27).

But the big event and the excuse for Bob and I being on this road trip is Rebecca and Paul's wedding. (Becka is my niece.)

The event was held at "The 1859" in Loveland, Ohio. A great evening was had by all.

The heat and humidity in Cincinnati have been brutal. These two days we explored the area, checked out the various places that we need to be at for the wedding event. Of course the only cool place was the Hard Rock Casino. We did do a few touristy things as well. Findlay Market a (Quincy Market kind a place for those of you from the Boston area). There we had lunch at a small bistro: The French Crust. We also did the Titanic Immersion Experience. The virtual reality  part was interesting but needs more work.
On Thursday evening we had a take out Thai/Laos dinner with family.

It's Tuesday. Glad the trailer A/C is working this morning at 7:30AM it was already 85°F. Our goal today is to land in the Cincinnati area. Only 2 routes  US 70 from Pittsburgh to Columbus and US 71 down to Cincinnati.  ( US 71 actually goes into northern West Virginia.  So if you're counting states add 1. As of today: NH, MA, CT, NJ, PA, WV, OH.
After about 5 hrs we've stopped at East Fork Ohio State Park about a30 minutes from the wedding venue. More of that later in the week. The site is very nice has full hookups which we'll have until Friday and then we mo e to a water&electric site for the weekend. Next few days just laying.
If the temperature comes down maybe a round of golf . Otherwise the lake here in the park...Thursday and Friday: wedding/family...4:30PM- 93°F

Monday (day 2)
We left Quakerwoods Campground around 8:30 AM ET. We decided to bypass the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the 8
$80. of tolls to get to Pittsburgh. A little longer but we lost all traffic and the road was very good. (US 78-> US 81->PA 22->PA 322->PA 99->PA22->US 70)
Stopped for the night at the Pittsburgh/Madison KOA Journey just off US 70.

It's been a few years since Bob and I have been able to hit the road but HERE WE GO AGAIN!
The stimulus is a wedding in southwest Ohio on June 27th ( also Bob's birthday).

Today is Day 1
I actually started on Thursday from Freedom, NH and stopped in Candia to pick up Bob and pay a scheduled visit with the dentist. Saturday we took in a Manchester Fisher Cats (A Toronto BlueJays Triple A affiliate ) baseball game.  Cats lost .
On Sunday morning we headed towards Ohio.
First night: Quakerwoods Campground near Bethlehem,  PA. The trip was almost uneventful...Google Maps assumes you're traveling in a passenger car and maps your route as such. About 10 miles from the campground we arrived a a bridge will not accommodate a pickup truck pulling a 30ft  Airstream trailer. Luckily there was an officer there to direct us downstream to a bridge we could cross. I hate to admit that this was not the first time getting to this bridge. I guess it's ti.e upgrade to a GPS mapping app for trucks and RVs.
Bedded down for the night...
I promise pictures at some point.
