Sunday July 3

DAWSON CITY, YT
56°   Smokey
Started the day with a few adjustment to the trailer:
1) hitch needed adjusting after a day driving on rutted construction roads,
2) Needed to fill our fresh water tanks as the next several days will at dry campgrounds,
3) Replace the closet door latch which was a victim of the rough roads, and
4) assess the A/C fan which seems to have been dislodged by the roads. ( this will have to wait until we can find a ladder to access the fan from on top of the trailer...

In order to go further we need to cross the Yukon River on the George Black ferry a free service provided by the Yukon government.
This is a first come first serve deal and the ferry can get maybe 2 RVs and a car or 2 on each crossing. We're about tenth in line.10AM
11:45AM it's our turn. Once across the River we're on our was up the Top of the world Highway to Chicken, Alaska.
This road is known for spectacular views except if there are forest fires in the area. All the valleys are smoke filled. This is not a road for those who are afraid of heights. No guiderails, soft shoulders and drops of either side that are 90° pitch and conti ue down for many miles.

At 3:37PM we enter the 49th state to enter the Union and Bob's 50th State. Sadly due to the extreme fire danger there weren't able to have fireworks to celebrate 🤣.
We stopped briefly in the one gas station/ gift shop/ RV park and decided to skip this wilderness tourist trap.
We stayed a few miles further at the West Fork, Bureau of Land Management campground. We and the campground host were the only humans. The mosquitoes were big and Hungary, no sitting out at the picnic table.
